How to wash your car the right way

Buying a car is much easier when compared to maintenance. However, proper vehicle maintenance can help extend the life of your vehicle in the long run. Here are some tips to spruce up your set of wheels.

  • Wash your car regularly, at least once a week. Particles like dust, bugs, mud, grease spots and bird droppings can leave stains and damange the car paint if they are not washed off immediately. Working from the top of the car to the bottom, just wash and rinse off one section at a time.

  • Spend a few pennies from your pocket for a good car wash soap and you'll always get sparkling results. But always remember never to use any household or dishwashing liquid as they contain harmful abrasives and additives that can stip off wax and damage your car's paintwork.

  • Choose a shaded area or during the cooler parts of the day to wash your war because washing in the hot afternoon sun may cause uneven drying to occur. This will result in residues and streaks forming on your vehicle. Wipe away excess water after the final rinse with a clean terry cloth to prevent watermarks from forming on the vehicle's surface.

  • To protect your car from damage and to maintain its colour and shine, you should try to wax your car at least twice a year. This helps to remove any paint oxidation and surface dirt while adding a protective coating over your vehicle. Waxing can also minimise or remove minor damage such as surface scratches and light contamination, while giving a high-lustre finish to your car.
